The anchors in Lake City are almost all trees. There are a few large metal pins at Pumphouse which were not installed by the town and are not inspected or maintained by the town. Moderate natural anchor building skills are necessary for climbing at the Lake City Ice Park. Bring or buy at the local gear store at least 30 meters of static rope for anchors. 30 meters will do some of the climbs, 40 meters will do most climbs, and 50 meters will do all climbs (this is assuming your are using 2 anchor points).

There is top access to every climb in the park, so theoretically everything can be top-roped. However, there are some climbs that because of their height and/or meandering lend themselves to a multi pitch lead climb rather than top rope. There is no "Lead Only" portion of the park at this time.

There has never been a day that all the routes in the park were being climbed. No one has ever had to stand in line to get an anchor or to be able to score a route(unless maybe if someone was set on only climbing a certain route) Obviously how crowded the park is varies a lot. Weekdays are usually quiet. Weekends are much busier. Holiday weekends tend to be even busier. Some weekdays mid-season there maybe only be 10 people in the whole park. Some holiday weekends there have been close to 300 people in the park. February is our busiest month followed by January. December is quiet except after Christmas and March is quiet after the 1st weekend.

The Lake City Ice Park is free to visit and to climb.
We are however supported by the generosity of donations, and we do ask that those that are able to donate, to please do so through our website, or various QR codes located around the Ice Park.
We hope to be able to maintain the Ice Park through this donation based system.

Parallel parking almost anywhere along County Road 20 is allowed. There are parking lots at Pumphouse and Beer Garden areas. There are many wide shoulders along the way where perpendicular parking is a good idea.

Facebook is generally the best place to meet up with fellow climbers.
There is the Lake City Locals and Friends page, as well as the Colorado Ice Climbing page. Both are good places to post for future trips and see if others would want to meet up.

The Ice Park is located almost completely on BLM Land and is therefore subject to BLM dispersed camping rules. This means that car camping and tent camping are generally allowed. If you don't know BLM rules, please read up on those. Please be considerate on busy weekends and don't take up Beer Garden area parking spots for camping. There is a large parking area that is great for campers across the road from Beer Garden. It's not recommended to park tight to the cliffs because they do shed rock sometimes. There is no power available and generator use should be kept to an absolute minimum. One of the big expenses of running the ice park is the porta-potties. If you are using those as part of your camping set up, please donate extra!
